Key Stage 3
The main focus of Key Stage 3 is to prepare pupils for secondary school. This is done by helping them to develop their core skills in literacy and numeracy, as well as their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Pupils are also encouraged to develop their critical thinking skills and to become independent learners.
Key Stage 3 is an important time in a child’s education, and it is a time when they can make great progress. With the right support, all pupils can reach their full potential.

Key Stage 3 Assessment
The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint is a suite of assessments designed to assess learners at the end of the Cambridge Lower Secondary programme. It is a valuable tool for schools to obtain an international benchmark of learner performance and identify areas for improvement.
The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint is offered in nine subjects:
- English
- English as a Second Language
- Mathematics
- Science
- Global Perspectives
- History
- Geography
- French
- Spanish
The assessments are marked by Cambridge International, and the results are reported using a new 0-50 scale within new performance bands. This provides schools with a more detailed understanding of learners’ strengths and weaknesses.
Here are some of the benefits of using the Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint:
Provides an international benchmark of learner performance: The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint is a globally recognized assessment, so schools can use the results to compare their learners’ performance to those of learners in other countries.
Identifies areas for improvement: The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint can help schools identify areas where learners need additional support. This information can be used to plan targeted interventions to help learners improve their performance.
Informs teaching and learning: The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint can provide teachers with valuable feedback on their teaching. This feedback can be used to inform planning and improve teaching effectiveness.
Motivates learners: The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint can motivate learners to work hard and improve their performance. The assessments provide learners with a clear goal to strive for.
